Examinations

Regular dental exams are an important part of dental health care. During a dental exam, the dentist will check for any cavities or gum disease. We will also check for other oral health problems by checking your face, neck and mouth for any abnormalities. Dental X-Rays or other diagnostic procedures may be used to screen for other health concerns that may be hidden between the teeth and below the gumline.

X-rays (Radiographs)

X-rays are an important part of our exams that help to detect dental and oral health issues before they become severe problems. These images help detect internal tooth decay, dental infections, tumors and teeth still below the gumline. At our office we use digital x-rays which allow us to examine the images immediately, emit up to 90% less radiation and can be viewed on the computer allowing us to enhance clarity or enlarge images.

Professional Cleanings

A dental cleaning is a procedure the removes tartar (plaque that has hardened on the teeth) that may have developed even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach in routine toothbrushing.

Professional cleanings are done by our certified dental hygienists and includes tooth polishing and scaling which removes plaque build-up, tartar and surface stains. This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth. Sometimes deeper cleanings are needed if too much tartar has built up above and below the gum line or there is gum disease.

Sealants

Dental sealants are a dental treatment intended to help prevent tooth decay. Back molars have pits and fissures (grooves) that are more vulnerable to tooth decay due to food and bacteria getting stuck in them.

Sealants are dental materials that are placed in these pits and fissures to fill them, creating a smooth surface which is easier to clean while brushing and flossing. Sealants are mainly used in children and can last for a few years before wearing off and needing to be replaced.
